Frequently Asked Questions & Answers
» What size of dish antenna required? Facing which direction?
A: In most of the places over China, a 0.55m Ku band dish will be big enough to receive Dream's digital broadcasting. Check the signal coverage section for more satellite signal footprints and dish sizes information.
» How soon can you deliver? How do I pay? How long it takes to install?
A: We are able to arrange the dish installation the next day you order in Shanghai. It normally takes one day for the new unit activation. We have to activate the receiver box's subscription before we install it at your home, to avoid the possible remote unit activation problems; Dish installation and cabling work take around 1.5 hours.
» Do you offer other satellite TV systems?
A: Sorry, No. There are different commercial TV broadcasters like Cignal (2009), G-Sat (2008) from Philippines and DishHD (2010) from Taiwan, each offering an unique channel package. Check here to learn more about these systems and you will find Dream has many advantages over other systems, they are:
1. Smaller dish, facing Southwest one o'clock direction, easy to install, strong signal, greater area.
2. Better channels to meet different needs.
3. More English channels, from Philippines, the only English language nation in Asia.
4. Good video quality, not HD yet but better than local cable TV channels.
5. Fair price, cheap renewal, easy subscription and flexible payments.
6. A China office to serve subscribers working, living & traveling in China.
7. Professional dish antenna installation team.
» I'm NOT located in Shanghai, what to do?
A: If you are willing to pay the dish technicians transportation, we send people over to install the system. If it costs too much for the transportation, we can only send the activated receiver unit and dish antenna set to your location. In terms of installation, we have some dish installation instruction to help you set up the dish antenna correctly if you think you are able to make it. Otherwise we have to try to find a local technician to help you do the job. Often we do not know the worker personally. You have to pay some extra (around ￥200) to the dish technician directly on finishing the installation.
» I have a dish, and a copy box, what do I do? Can I use the dish?
A: I am sorry you have to buy a new legitimate subscription receiver box. If the dish is already set to KoreaSat5 at 113E, then connect the box to dish signal cable, it will be working immediately. We set the default LNB type as 11.3GHz, as it is the most commonly found dish LNB in China.
If you are not in Shanghai and you are not sure of your LNB Type, probably you have to test different LNB Type numbers to match your dish's LNB. Our default LNB Type set is 11300. You can try 9750/10600 if it doesn't work. The setting procedure is on Homecast manual book page 16.
Please note that dishes quality warranty is not included if the dish antenna was not installed by us.
» How do you know if my system is pirated copy version?
A: If the box is any of the following type, it has to be a copy box: CDTV410, CDTV430, XSAT 410, XSAT430,DM500, DM500-S, DM800, DM800-S. DM boxes are all connected to internet via router. They call it card-sharing system which steal legitimate subscribers' smartcard access information constantly updated through internet servers. Find more information in our Anti-Piracy section.
» Can I add more or select channels?
A: Sorry no. Dream only offers 38 channels together as one subscription package so far.
» How many TV can I connect?
A: One box one TV. Homecast box has two pairs of AV output, you can connect the second pair to another TV, it shows you exactly the same channel, and you have to do channel switch via the box, not TV. However, there is a device called AV Transmitter, which transfers box AV directly to another TV. Check more under " Multiple Room Solutions "
» Do you have satellite Internet? Does the box need to be connected to Internet?
A: Sorry no we do not offer satellite internet connection services in China. / Absolutely no need. It's simply dish outside connected to receiver inside.
» Do you change lineup often?
A: Not exactly, check the channel lineup changes record under " TV Channels " . The channel changes are all about regional rebroadcast contract with different channel providers. Dream used to add more channels from 2002 to year 2009 each year. There was a major change in year 2009, because of the anti-piracy upgrading. We have a detailed changing record under TV Channels section.
» Do you have plans less than one year?
A: No for new receiver units. The new units can only be activated with an one year fixed subscription contract. However, we do have some second hand one year old empty receiver units form our dear customers now and then. They are willing to return the box for free to us because of our excellent services. We can reload the second hand box monthly and offer them at a great discount. You can check with us to know if we have to have some second hand boxes.
» I have a copy box, can I just buy a real card?
A: No. The legitimate subscription unit is box and smartcard paired up as one unit. We can not even switch smartcard among legitimate boxes.
» What's the difference between pirated and official boxes.
A: Satellite piracy is stealing the encoded broadcasting signal. There is no channel availability warranty for the pirated boxes. June and August 2009 anti-piracy upgrading blocked all the piracy access to Dream broadcasting. Currently the most seen pirated system are 134E' CBTV box connected to both dish and internet router. Technically anything connected to internet could be easily blocked. This is why the copy boxes never works stable, simply because of the system's internet connection nature. There is no piracy to Dream system now.
